🏔challenge: Help! I have a toxic boss, but I love the mission of the organization. I also have a small team and don’t want to “abandon” them during a busy time. What should I do?
✨opportunity: Toxic leaders are sadly all-too common. While you can’t control someone else’s behavior, you CAN control how you react.
> Prioritize your mental health. If a toxic boss or workplace is taking its toll on your mental health, it’s time to move on. When you’re in survival mode, it’s sometimes hard to tap into what you’re truly feeling. Reflect and be real with yourself and how this toxicity is affecting your life.
> Take charge. Whether it’s fear, doubt, anxiety, or some combination of reasons, many people hang on wayy too long hoping for change. The only person you can change is yourself. Put pen to paper and start creating a the dream role for yourself. What would you do in a day? Who would you work with? What sort of work environment do you want?
> Get a new role. You have the power to make change. The world is your oyster, especially in this job market. Do your research and start applying. Be picky. You don’t need to jump from one toxic place to another – no thank you! Be curious, ask hard questions, and do your research. Move on to a better place that values you as a whole person, not just your skills. You deserve it.
Seasons changing provide a perfect time to pause and reflect. As we enter a slower season, let’s take the time to retreat inward and prioritize ourselves. What seeds need to be planted for next spring? What can we shed? Where can we bring renewal?
