🏔challenge: “I feel as though I am putting out consistent content online but don’t really feel like I am connecting with anyone due to lack of engagement. Do you have any suggestions?” – non-profit comms manager
✨opportunity: Sadly, this is an all too common problem for brands and creatives trying to connect online. With algorithms changing constantly and more and more competition popping up everyday, reaching your brand connectors can feel impossible at times. Here are my suggestions to increase engagement online >>
- Keep showing up. I know this is overstated but the truth is, if you keep posting and consistently show-up online, you will start to see growth. **disclaimer–this does not mean making yourself available 24/7 +365!
- Try something new. With trends coming and going it never hurts to ride the wave while staying true to your message and values. Think of these trends as a vehicle for your message, if it works great! If it flops, you move on.
- Evaluate what/how you are communicating. Okay here’s the hard truth, if you are doing all the right things and nothing seems to stick you need to look inward. A couple questions I like to ask are; 1) Is my message coming from a true and authentic place? and 2) Does my brand voice connect or direct? For example, are your posts always followed-up with a need/ask or do you take time to hear from your brand connectors as well?
Remember engagement is bound to ebb and flow so don’t get fixated on one week or even of one month of data, always zoom-out when measuring analytics. And if you truly are loosing touch with your brand connectors it might be time for a deeper excavation of your strategy.
